The ECM might need to see itself out of limp mode, which would mean connecting the missing parts back on for it to see them to pop out of limp mode, and be tuned.In the past month, when I’m downshifting using the exhaust brake to slow down, it will jump to 4th gear and stay there. A few miles we ended up in a back up for a few miles & the truck was stuck in second gear. Pulled over (took a few miles till I could pull over) & let the truck cool down/check the trans fluid. Everything reads ok. Drove the truck home, it shifted fine, but shifts quick instead of the soft delayed shift. If you have a little time, I think you could repalce it yourself pretty easily, if that's the problem.OD is still used in 4th gear, but it only has to hold about 60% of the torque (versus 100% in 5th and 6th), so it sounds like it can still hold that OK. Fixing the problemThe solenoids are a possibility and hopefully the problem will be found with a component such as that or the electronic controls. All other causes are clutch and/or hydraulic circuit related and thus would require rebuilding the unit (not difficult though).
