I have done platinum runs many multiple times on MASTER Sepulcher lost sectors around 40+ times over 3 days and ZERO exotic. Then on Quarry I can run that in 2-3 minutes on master and even skip champions and still get exotics, like 5 exotics in 10 runs, so it is 100% BS that you have to have platinum runs for a chance at exotics. No. Farming exotics from legend/master lost sectors only works with solo runs. Legendary/master lost sector? They never dropped exotics when you're in a fireteam unless its rng world drop. The chest at the end only drops exotics if you do it solo. It must be done solo from start to end.Yes doing it solo increases your chances of getting an exotic and is the best way to get the exotic. You can still earn an exotic from that lost sector if you have a fireteam with you but that's rare.
