Check the voltage at the battery without a load with it running it should be around 14 volts, then load it with raising the plow depending on the condition of your battery it shouldnt get below 12 volts.With the snowplow attached and on the ground, place the stand arm in the lower position with the lock pin engaged and with the stand shoe fully retracted in the "UP" position. Measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the stand shoe. This distance should be 1-3/8" to 2-1/8".

I unplugged it and waited for everything to cool down before plugging it back in to lower the blade. I'm going to replace the solenoid tommorrow.14 posts · Joined 2006. #1 · Dec 25, 2006. First let me say I am new to plowing, and want to add this service to my small business. I have a 1987 GMC full size Jimmy, with, I believe, a first generation Boss V plow. My problem started as an electrical problem, and, after getting that fixed, I thought, now the plow won't raise, or wings swing.There is a little screen at the end of the lift valve. Go on the boss website and find the diagram for your hydraulic manifold model to determine which is the lift valve. You should also check to see if the coil over that valve is working properly. A couple years ago the smart-hitch switch had silver/chrome colored terminals on the back side which were a problem. The brass terminal switch seems to work better--no problems since. Until switch problem was figured out we sometimes had luck pushing in on switch as you were pushing it up.mnz28 said: Problem solved. Finally had some time to attack this again. This year when I mounted the plow and plugged in the battery connector the pump immediately came on and the plow powered up and the pump continued to run. Oem boss solenoid mounted inside driver's side fenderwell. Large post towards the front of the truck, power from the battery. White wire on little post away from fender. Black wire on little post near fender. The first snow we had I loaded it with sand/ salt, that's all I can get in central Wisconsin, and it wouldn't even turn on. I replaced a angle cylinder because it was leaking. After replacing it everything worked great. Recently it has been having problems. The plow seems to freeze and clicks.
