Sp20 wads
SP20's are good substitutes for the WW20F1 but are expensive if you shoot a lot. Try the Windjammer 20. Although the factory lists them as a 7/8oz. wad they work well with 1oz. if you use a low dense, sitting powder like HS6. The Duster orange 20 is a 7/8oz. wad, period. It sits high with about any brand/type powder.Overview. Some of the Euro wads are said to have 1 oz. shot cups but they don't look like they will hold an oz. of shot to me.Replacing the SP 12 with another Rem wad may be a tad difficult. The RP 12 is also a 1-1/4 oz. wad, but is a bit shorter and would require the use of a bulky powder to get a good fit, or possibly a filler wad. Remington SP20 or SP20S Wads (or replacement... if there is any?) I'm wanting to load some 20ga #4 buck loads and have a Lyman #5 load book which calls for the SP20 wads. I was using long shot and the claybuster wads and then switched powder, which caused stack height problems with the CB wads. I switched to the Windjammers and haven't looked back.
Check with the Bureau of ATF at (304) 616-4550 for more in I knew about the Alliant load with the Win wad but I have never found one with the Rem SP20 wad. That is the wad I prefer to use for my 20ga 1oz loads. Thank You for the information you provided me. It really depends on what powder you're using, and consequently the volume, if you're using Unique, you're in trouble, if you're using WSF you have more options. The STS 20 is probably the most difficult hull to find a suitable alternative for, unless you're using a very dense powder.
