As you've mentioned I totally agree about the scroll thaumaturgy as well and how impactful it can be. I'd argue a Thaumaturge is explicitly more magical than most champion and rogue builds and it's 100% clear.Magus was one of the classes that needed to come out fast because of awkward gaps in gish builds, and it shows, if only a little. I can imagine the release have kind of make them wary, especially since they can't just drop-in the Inquisitor's kit into 2e because of how varied and disconnected all its moving parts were.
