Boss plow solenoid problems
Hey guys- I have a Boss RT3 8'2" Poly V (unknown age) w/ smarthitch2 on my 2012 Ford Super Duty w the 6.7. Although the plow is older- it has always worked flawlessly. Recently the truck was in an accident and had some body work done. When I went to hook it up today- I couldn't get it attach itself to the truck.Replace valve. Test power to the control box by checking voltage between black wire and ground at the white 9-pin connector. If NO voltage is present, power from fuse box has become disconnected. If voltage is present, check wiring and switch of control box. 4. Plow will not raise or raises slowly (pump motor runs).The Boss snow plow solenoid wiring diagram typically includes several wires, each serving a specific purpose. You can go to the BOSS site and find how to trouble shoot and check coils along with how to remove and clean the valve. I have a 1987 GMC full size Jimmy, with, I believe, a first generation Boss V plow. My problem started as an electrical problem, and, after getting that fixed, I thought, now the plow won't raise, or wings swing.solenoid has failed in the closed position. Quickly remove power to the pump by disconnecting the power/ground cables to the plow. Replace solenoid. If pump stops running, check wiring of switch box for short between black and white/black wire in control box, or failed switch. 3. Plow will not lower. A couple years ago the smart-hitch switch had silver/chrome colored terminals on the back side which were a problem. The brass terminal switch seems to work better--no problems since. Look into your large 13 pin connector on the plow side, make sure the #13 pin isn't broken. If it is broken, you will still hear a click when activating the smartswitch, but it will not raise or drop. Or, you can trigger the motor solenoid under the hood with a jumper cable to the trigger post and the plow will raise. On a sno-way if the motor is running yet no functions are wanted then the plow will come up.
